BURRIS LOGISTICS TO OPEN

NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN CECIL COUNTY

BALTIMORE, MD (June 7, 2004) - Burris Logistics, one of the largest temperature-controlled food distribution centers on the East Coast, today announced that it is expanding its operations in Maryland with the construction of a Mid-Atlantic warehouse and distribution center in the Broadlands Industrial Park in Elkton. The Cecil County expansion will initially create 175 new full time jobs, growing to 250 within three years.

“We are delighted to welcome Burris Logistics to Cecil County, and pleased to assist in this partnering effort,” said Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.  “As we continue to focus our economic development efforts in every region of our state, the fact that Burris is investing in this new distribution center in Cecil County is yet another example that we are succeeding.”

The Company is investing $23 million in the project, which includes the construction of a 220,000 square-foot warehouse/distribution facility on a 30-acre site in Elkton.

“We considered several sites in this region and decided to make Cecil County our home,” said Donnie Burris, Regional Vice President, Burris Logistics. “Both the State and the county made it clear that they wanted Burris to be a part of their community. They have been aggressive with their incentives and have given us the ability to move rapidly on the construction of this facility. We look forward to a great partnership for many years to come.”

The Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) will provide a conditional loan of $400,000 from the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Fund (MEDAF) to assist with the land acquisition and construction of the new facility. The loan will convert to a grant provided Burris meets its employment goals. In addition, DBED will be assisting Burris by providing Job Creation Tax Credits, the One Maryland Tax Credits, and the Enterprise Zone’s Property Tax along with State Tax Credits. Cecil County will provide real property tax credits of $4,000 per year over a 10-year period and Enterprise Zone tax credits totaling $40,000 over the next 10 years.

“Burris management’s decision to locate in Cecil County reaffirms the strength of that region as an attractive location for warehousing types of businesses as well as other types of businesses,”said DBED Secretary Aris Melissaratos.

"The Cecil County Commissioners are pleased to have Burris Logistics as the newest member of the county's corporate community,” said  Nelson K. Bolender, president of the Cecil County Board of Commissioners. “We have met directly with Burris' top officers, and they place a high value on human resources. The company will be an 'employer of preference' for many in the County's workforce."

Headquartered in Milford, Delaware, Burris Logistics is a family-owned business operating a network of refrigerated and frozen food warehousing and distribution systems offering over 50 million cubic feet of refrigerated and frozen warehousing space in 13 strategic locations on the East Coast. The company serves retail, wholesale, and manufacturing customers.
