During these challenging times, being a truck driver is truly essential. We want to take a moment and say to all our Burris Drivers, THANK YOU for MAKING IT HAPPEN, every day!

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted the lives of the nation, and you have proven that we simply would not have food on our plates if not for your hard work, integrity, and dedication to your profession. Driving a truck for extended hours, with limited stops and little contact with people, has not been an easy journey. Regardless, you always provide our partners with WOW Service despite so many obstacles on the road.

The safety of truck operators has always been one of the top priorities at Burris Logistics. We’ve reached out to Burris Custom Safety Manager in Federalsburg, MD, Jameson Huntley. He answered some of the questions about the safety of our Burris drivers when on duty:

-What precautions are our Dedicated Fleet drivers taking to stay safe on the road?

“Drivecam in the tractors encourage defensive driving. It includes monitoring following distance, looking ahead, expecting the unexpected, and avoiding the use of handheld electronic devices. They also work to maintain a healthy work/life balance that allows drivers to have enough sleep and prevent driver fatigue.”

-What are our Dedicated Fleet drivers doing to stay safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic?

“Keeping hand sanitizer and plenty of masks with them at all times, reducing contact with customers, or maintaining a safe distance.”

– How are we promoting safety to our drivers?

Huntley mentioned that “Training is assigned to drivers every month, advising them of their hours of service, promoting COVID-19 awareness/social distancing.” help to make sure that drivers are adequately trained and are up-to-date with the latest information.

– How are things different safety-wise due to COVID for our drivers? (extended work hours, fewer stops, etc.)?

“No salad bars in grocery stores means less product on the truck for drivers and probably fewer stops, since we would provide items served at once. Also, some areas are not required to sign documents to reduce exposure.”

It is unclear what the future impact will be. However, the Burris Logistics family is determined to continue supporting you to ensure that we do everything possible to keep you safe. We also recognize that not all drivers interacting with our distribution centers are part of our dedicated fleet. We honor and show gratitude to the thousands of independent carriers who keep our supply chain intact.
